Dog Friendly Wedding Venue

Would you like to bring your dog to your wedding ?  We have had a number of dogs at weddings over the years and a horse!  Being animal lovers ourselves we do know that some couples would like to have their dogs come to the wedding.

There’s something about weddings that brings out the best kind of magic — love, laughter, and moments you’ll remember forever. And if you’re one of the many couples whose love story includes a four-legged best friend, you’re probably wondering: Can my dog be part of the big day too?

Short answer: Yes. Long answer? Absolutely, yes — with a little planning and a lot of treats.

1. Decide Your Dog’s Role in the Wedding

Your dog can play several adorable parts, depending on their personality and comfort level:

  • Ring Bearer: Leash up with a satin bow or floral collar and let them strut their stuff down the aisle (just maybe don’t give them the real rings).

  • Dog of Honor / Best Dog: Standing proudly beside you at the altar, your pup will give new meaning to “man's best friend.”

  • Flower Pup: Instead of tossing petals, they can carry a basket or just look cute in a flower crown.

  • Guest of Honor: Not every pup needs a job — some just need a front-row seat and lots of belly rubs.

At Furtho so far mostly couples have just had their dogs for the ceremony and photos althought we have had a few well behaved dogs for the day.

Below is a bridesmaid and the couples dog, and they walked down the aisle together.

Lindsey and Paul had their dog here for the whole day - and it spent most of the day curled up on Lindsey's wedding dress train.

2. Outfit Ideas: Dressing Your Dog for the Occasion

Just like the humans, dogs deserve to look their best too. Here are a few fashionable (and functional) options:

  • Custom bow ties or floral collars to match your wedding colors

  • Tuxedo harnesses or dog dresses (bonus points for matching the bridal party!)

  • Personalized bandanas with phrases like "Dog of Honor" or "My Humans Are Getting Married"

Tip: Keep comfort in mind. If your dog isn’t a fan of clothes, stick with simple accessories.

Dean and Kelly had not only their dogs come for photos after their ceremony but also Kelly's horse.  And they were all dressed up as well.

3. Plan Ahead: Tips for a Smooth Pup-Inclusive Wedding

Dogs can be unpredictable — which is half the fun and half the challenge. Here’s how to keep things calm:

  • Designate a dog handler: Have a trusted friend, family member, or even a hired pet attendant manage your dog’s needs throughout the day (walks, water, cuddles).

  • Have a dog-friendly exit plan: After the ceremony or photos, arrange for your dog to be taken home or to a pet sitter so they can relax while the party continues.

If all your friends and family are at your wedding you might not have someone to ask to bring your dogs for just part of your wedding. This is a service a number of dog walkers will offer. The below picture is Hailey from Canine Company Towcester East who brought Chris & Sophie's Cocker Spaniels for some photos after their wedding ceremony. The cocker spaniels were lively dogs and would not have wanted to be here all day.

Julie-Ann from Pamper My Poochie has been here this year to champerone a dog.  She brought the dog before the ceremony for him to get used to the area and then took him away after the ceremony and photos.

4. Capture the Cutest Moments

Make sure your photographer is ready to snap all the heart-melting moments:

  • A first look with your dog

  • Your pup walking down the aisle

  • Photos with your dog

  • Cake topper cameos or signature cocktail signs featuring your dog’s face

Dogs add spontaneity, charm, and a whole lot of personality to your photos. Don’t be surprised if those turn out to be your favourites.

5. Consider Your Dog’s Comfort

Weddings can be overwhelming — people, noise, new environments. Always prioritize your dog’s wellbeing:

  • Bring familiar toys or blankets

  • Ensure they get bathroom breaks, water, and downtime

  • If they seem stressed or overstimulated, it’s okay to let them sit part of it out

6. Don’t Want Them There in Person? Include Them in Spirit!

If having your dog at the wedding isn’t possible, there are still plenty of ways to make them part of your celebration:

  • Signature drinks named after your pup (with illustrated signs!)

  • Custom cake toppers or cookies with their likeness

  • Incorporate their name or paw print into your stationery

  • Wear cufflinks or jewelry engraved with their initials

7. Dogs at Furtho Manor Farm

We just welcome couples dogs at Furtho and ask guests do not bring dogs as well as you might end up with more dogs than people !

Dogs also need to be kept on a lead at all times.
