Christmas at Furtho

Christmas is a special period of the year wherever you go and that is no different at Furtho. Despite the difficulties which winter presents on the farm, the comfort of the Christmas feeling and the special opportunities which the festive period allows certainly make it worth it. Whilst we haven't had a white Christmas at Furtho in several years, the frosty ground in the mornings, bare trees and crisp weather creates a beautiful wintery picture throughout the farm.

Every year at Furtho we host various festive events. These include the Carol Service in St Bartholomew's Church (which you can read all about in a previous blog post). The Carol Service invites people from the local villages, raising money from the Churches Conservation Trust, a charity which takes care of over 350 historical churches in Britain, including St Bartholomew's. Alongside this, each year, we pick another chosen charity to raise donations for. In addition to the Carol Service, after the success of 'Thistlerose florals' and their wreath making workshops last year, we hosted these sessions again this year. Below are some examples of the wreaths made in last year's workshops.

In addition to these festive events, Furtho is open for hire all year long and the barn and church are able to be utilised in a very special way during the festive period. We have multiple heaters which can be used in the barn, allowing the barn to be kept warm to keep guests comfortable. However, our favourite element of winter events is the ability to light the candles in the church. When the church is hired, there is the choice for the candles to be lit, and it allows for beautiful illumination of the church, both during ceremonies, but also for pictures, as seen below.

Each year we host various festive parties for different companies. Below are some pictures from the Kinetic Christmas party fit with lights, games and more.

This year we also held a Christmas fair on the 3rd December. Thank you to all the people who came to our Christmas Fair, the weather might have been against us, but it was lovely and cozy in the barn. The stall holders were kept busy all day - with a constant flow of people. We had a fabulous group of local stall holders with stationery, jewellery, baking, home accessories, candles, books, toys, beauty products and gifts. There was also brilliant food available with Pizza from Farm Slice, ice cream from Your Cool, cheesecakes from Cheesy Cheesecakes, doughnuts from Oh So Dough, and coffee and mulled wine from Vespaccino.

We sincerely hope that everyone has a brilliant Christmas and a happy new year and we look forward to everything that the new year has to bring.
